The Heart and Brains of a Swell Impact Portfolio

Here’s a look at what it takes to make the cut.

The portfolio curation process is a labor of love here at Swell. It’s a chance for our portfolio management team to delve into the financial markets and surface companies that are making a positive impact in the world. As we prepare for each quarterly rebalance, Swell is uncompromisingly selective. We take a vast number of investable companies and whittle them down using our proprietary Engaged Impact Criteria. Here are the numbers behind the process.

250,259 companies on our watch list. We pare this down by applying rules about asset class, geographic region, and liquidity requirements.

75,000 sources we examine as part of our company analysis screening.

3,500 companies left with after applying our first round of criteria. This includes 3,000 U.S. based companies and 500 companies based outside the U.S.

70% of the 3,500 companies meet our minimum impact requirements. Many of these will also get the axe as we dig deeper via our research process.
